FAQ

Velocity Micro answers the questions you have about the
new FUZEbox system!

What's an audio zone?

An audio zone is an area where you wish to have discreet music playing. For example, the "Patio" or the "Living Room." You will need speakers of some sort in the area – either hard wired to your amp, or using wireless technology (available for purchase from Velocity Micro).

How many audio zones can I have?

The FuzeBox has 5 audio zones. The FuzeBox Pro can be upgraded to 9 audio zones.

How do I assign and set up my audio zones?

During your initial setup, you will be able to name each zone for easy reference (and may change the names later at any time).

Can I assign some audio zones now and others later?

Yes you can.

How do I send video content to different areas of my home?

Video zones today require the use of a Velocity Micro vZone and are available on the FuzeBox Pro only. In the first quarter of 2009, any Windows Media Center Extender may also be used – including an Xbox360.

Can I send wireless signals to my video/audio zones?

Yes, audio may be transmitted wirelessly providing your transmitter choice is powerful enough. Currently for video, a wired CAT5 connection will be needed.

Won't I need a bunch of remotes?

No! Just one remote will run your whole FuzeBox system for you. There are codes that you can also use in any universal remote to control the FuzeBox as well as your other devices.

Does the remote need to be in the same room as the FuzeBox?

The true infrared (IR) remote does need to be able to 'see' the FuzeBox. Using a unique application included with the FuzeBox software, you can even control your music experience from any PC, laptop or Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) using a web browser. You can also control the system from any video zone.

What about DRM? How do I create a DVD library?

There are a multitude of software options available for individuals to purchase that allow archiving of DVD content to their personal computers. We include a 'helper' program called Fuze Media Manager that will recognize any unencrypted content you have and add all meta data and cover art for you – and help you copy it to your FuzeBox for your enjoyment!

Do I need a cable box too? What about a Tivo?

No! With both the FuzeBox and FuzeBox Pro, you can have us install cable cards (up to 2 in the FuzeBox and up to 4 in the FuzeBox Pro) that allow you to have full access to all of your cable TV content – HD and Premium channels, too. You'll have full ability to pause live TV, record all your favorite programs (just like Tivo) and access it from any extender video zone on your FuzeBox system.

Do I need internet access?

You will need (and want) internet access for your FuzeBox. The system comes delivered with a beautiful weather application that gets your current conditions from the internet. You will also need the internet for TV guide updates, as well as any support issues that may arise.

So can I access the internet with my FuzeBox?

You will be able to use the internet to access special Fuzebox features like the weather interface and custom TV guide.

Will the FuzeBox work with my existing sound system? Television?

The FuzeBox will work with ANY existing sound system. Your TV will need to be HDCP in order to utilize cable cards, but HDCP is not necessary if you are not choosing that option.

Do I need a FuzeBox for each TV in my home?

You will need just one FuzeBox Media Server. If you wish to access your movie library, pictures or videos on other TVs in the home, you will need a vZone with the Pro version attached to your display or you may use any media center extender with our update in the first quarter 2009.

How many movies, music, and photos can I store?

Storage depends on your choice! By default, you can store 100 movies and 4000 songs on the FuzeBox; 130 movies and 6000 songs on the FuzeBox Pro.

Can I use an external hard drive?

Yes!

How can I back up my data?

You can backup your data using many options: an external hard drive, a Velocity Micro Home Server or any other storage you may have on your home network.

Do I need a professional installer?

No! The FuzeBox is shipped to you with easy configuration and setup. You may want to utilize a professional to run speaker or network cables – or install in-wall speakers.
