As of today, Microsoft has begun rolling out the Fall Creators Update to Windows 10 via automatic updates. It’s a pretty major update with a nice set of new features which should add to your overall Windows experience. Here are our top four worth looking forward to.
Story Remix – Story Remix is a unique new way to create new iterations of your favorite memories. Drop in video, pictures, and music, select some transitions, add some effects, and click a button. Story Remix creates for you a fresh new edit of your video. Great for home movies and baby pictures.
Mixed Reality Integration – This update also doubles down on Mixed Reality – essentially, a form of interactive VR within a real-world backdrop – with support for a new family of Mixed Reality headsets which can create interactive Windows menus and 3D apps. This is just the start for this brand new technology, but Microsoft will be betting heavily on it over the next few years as headset hardware gets even better and software developers catch up.
OneDrive On Demand – We’ve loved OneDrive since its SkyDrive days. But we’ve always found it a little cumbersome needing to use local storage for files that are also synced to the cloud. With the Fall Creators Update, Microsoft has fixed that. Dubbed OneDrive On Demand, you can now store files exclusively in the cloud and have them accessible via Windows Explorer when and where you need them.
Timeline – The Timeline feature allows you to easily go back through your app, file, and document history to pick up work where you left off, even months in the past. It’s much quicker and easier than running traditional searches. The coolest part, it even works across multiple devices, assuming they’re all synced up to the same Windows account.
What’s your experience been with the Creators Update so far? Let us know in the comments.
