What’s a motherboard’s “form factor” mean?
The form factor refers to the physical size of the board. ATX is considered “standard” with mATX and mITX smaller and eATX larger. When choosing a board, make sure the form factor is a fit for the case you’re looking to use.
What’s a chipset?
The chipset is embedded onto the motherboard to control communication between CPU, RAM, storage, and peripherals. Since it’s CPU specific, chipset is a great indicator for whether a board supports Intel or AMD processors and is usually used as a part of a boards model nomenclature.
Does a more expensive board = better?
Sometimes, but not always. Higher quality boards generally have better heatsinks, VRMs, and capacitors, meaning they may be more reliable long term, especially in higher demand applications. More expensive boards will also typically have more I/O port options like USB and video outs.
