Design / Modeling

ProMagix™ HD60

Sketchup is a frequency bound application and does not take advantage of the multi-threading of many Intel i9, Ryzen Threadripper, or Intel Xeon processors. Local rendering using 3rd party plugins like V-ray, however, are multi-threaded and are reliant on the GPU for acceleration. A workstation based on Intel Core i7/i9 or AMD Rzyen like our HD60 is normally the best value, although our sales team can work with you to build the perfect workstation for your specific needs.

Sketchup FAQ

How many CPU cores do I need?

For most Sketchup workstation users, the ideal configuration is a high CPU core frequency with fewer CPU cores. Not all user workflows are the same, so be sure and contact us for an optimized configuration.

Does Sketchup need Xeon?

Intel Xeon processors are great for highly threaded applications or those that require ECC RAM, but for Sketchup, Core i7 or i9 are a much better value and typically will perform better overall.

Quadro or Geforce graphics – which is best?

That answer depends on your specific workflow. For most Sketchup users, Geforce cards are a better value. But for heavy render tasks, Quadro offers more horsepower if needed. Check out this blog post for more details.

Is Hard Drive speed important for Sketchup?

As a general rule faster SSDs will reduce load and save times, especially when working with very large, complex models or managing multiple windows.

I don’t know what I need – can you help?

Yes! Our sales team is happy to help with putting a configuration together to meet your needs and budget. Email or call us at 804-419-0900 for assistance.
