Substance Painter FAQ
How Multi-threaded is Substance Painter?
Substance Painter is multithreaded, but it’s largely GPU accelerated, so you’ll see much better performance ROI when investing in GPU rather than high end CPU power. A 10+ core CPU is optimal.
Does Substance Painter need ECC RAM?
ECC – or error correcting RAM – is not something that Substance Painter specifically requires or benefits from. In most cases 32GB of DDR4 or DDR5 RAM are sufficient.
Why is cooling important?
The faster the PC hardware, the more heat it generates. Dissipating that heat properly is the key to a stable, long-lasting workstation. Velocity Micro’s 25 years’ experience has allowed us to innovate case design and CPU coolers to keep your workstation as fast and cool as possible.
Quadro or Geforce graphics?
Substance 3D Painter is largely accelerated by the GPU, so you’ll see good return from investing there. Generally speaking though, they are not optimized for Quadro, so Geforce remains the best value. We recommend RTX 40-series.
